A-Z Memory Verses

A is for… As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. -Psalm 42:1,2

B is for… Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. -Matthew 10:16

C is for… Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!  For He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. -Psalm 95:6,7

D is for… Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. – Luke 12:32

E is for… Every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.  I know all the birds of the hills and all that moves in the field is mine. -Psalm 50:10,11

F is for… Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no where to lay his head. -Matthew 8:20

G is for… God said “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds-     livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.”           And it was so. -Genesis 1:24

H is for… He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.        -Psalm 18:33

I is for… I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;  I will counsel you         with my eye upon you.  Be not like a horse or mule, without understanding which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay with you. -Psalm 32:8,9

J is for… Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt. -John12:14,15

K is for… Know that the Lord, he is God:  It is He who made us, and we are His; We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. -Psalm100:3

L is for… Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.           -Proverbs 11:22

M is for… My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.  -John 10:27,28

N is for… Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field     and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them.  And whatever the man called every living creature that was it’s name. -Genesis 2:19

O is for… O Lord, do not be far off!  O you my help, come quickly to my aid!  Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog!  Save me from the mouth of the lion!  You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen!  I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you. -Psalm 22:19-22

P is for… Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word!  Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars!  Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds!       -Psalm 148:7-10

Q is for… Quit you like men.  Be strong.  Let all that you do be done in love.           -1Corinthians 16:13,14

R is for… Rebuke the beast that dwell among the reeds, the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples.  Trample underfoot those who lust after tribute;  scatter the peoples who delight in war. -Psalm 68:30

S is for… Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices  as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord?  To obey is better than sacrifice and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” -1 Samuel 15:22

T is for… The wicked flee when no one pursues but the righteous are bold as a lion.       -Proverbs 28:1

U is for… Unclean to you among the swarming things are these:  the mole rat, the mouse, the great lizard of any kind, the gecko, the monitor lizard, the sand lizard, and the chameleon. -Leviticus 11:29,30

V is for… Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.  All who came                before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the door.   If anyone enters by me he will be saved and go in and out and find pasture.                   -John 10:7-9

W is for… Where there are no oxen the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by      the strength of the ox. -Proverbs 14:4

X is for… eXceedingly wise but small things:  the ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer, the rock badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the cliffs, the locust have no kings yet all of them march in rank, the lizard you can take in your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces. -Proverbs 30:24-28

Y is for… Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  Resist him, firm in your faith. -1 Peter 5:8,9

Z is for… Zion hears and is glad, the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your precepts, O Lord. -Psalm 97:8

  2. I was wondering how you were going to get the X in there. You cheated a little, but that’s ok. 🙂 I love the list. It must have taken time to compile. I’d like to share it on my Facebook page if I may.

    • You’re right! It does take some time to compile these lists but it’s my favorite part of prepping for homeschool and I’m surprised every single year that I can find a verse for each letter to go along with our theme (except of course, that elusive q, x, and z…I do cheat a little to get those in 🙂
